How Train The Painter Works

Route to Bronze card

You must complete the Protective Coatings Applicator training

Route to Silver card

You must complete Protective Coatings Applicator AND Abrasive Blast Cleaner OR Spray Painter training.

Route to Gold card

You must complete Protective Coatings Applicator AND Abrasive Blast Cleaner OR Spray Painter training.

Upon successful completion of the Train The Painter - Protective Coatings Applicator module, delegates will be awarded with a Bronze card or an Orange trainee card.

To be granted the Bronze card delegates must have worked in the protective coatings industry for more than 1600 hours.

If 1600 hours have not been completed, delegates will receive an Orange trainee card. This can be upgraded to the bronze card if an employer provides evidence of work to SSPC.

What's Train the Painter?

Train the Painter is an internationally recognised training programme which is accredited and approved by The Society for Protective Coatings - SSPC.

The training has been developed by industry experts in response to the strong demand for certification within the industrial coatings industry that now requires personnel working within the road, rail, renewables and oil and gas industries to obtain professional specified certificates.

SSPC Train the Painter has three modules including;

Delegates will be awarded with either an Orange, Bronze, Silver or Gold card depending on the modules completed and experience already gained in the protective coatings industry.

  • Protective Coatings Applicator (Bronze, Silver and Gold levels available)
  • Abrasive Blast Cleaner
  • Spray Painter

Thin Film Intumescent Coatings

This is the fully accredited CSCS, BRE, ASFP Train The Painter applicators course for thin film intumescent coatings.

Intumescent coatings are applied to steel buildings either on or off site, to prevent structural failure in the event of fire, it is therefore essential that these coatings are applied by trained and qualified coating applicators. Thorough and correct training in Thin Film Intumescent Coating saves time, money and ultimately lives!

As part of the Globally recognised Train the painter coating applicator training program, this independently accredited training course for Thin Film Intumescent coatings has been developed to meet industry demands.

This training program has been developed with input from industry experts and associated bodies to create the first and only accredited Thin Film Intumescent coatings in the UK. All aspects of surface preparation and application of the products will be taught using both practical and theoretical methods.

Marine Coating Applicator

Coating Supervisor

The coatings industry has undergone considerable changes over the years, specifically related to increased levels of health & safety, new environmental legislation and minimum requirements for quality control.

This 2 day course has been developed to assist coating supervisors gain a thorough understanding of their roles and responsibilities, improve awareness on health & safety and environmental legislation. They will also gain an insight into coating technology, coating specifications, inspection techniques and equipment and paint related problems.

Accredited by the Water Jetting Association (WJA) this training certificate is globally accepted.
